Taking advantage of the surplus of new mothers at the immunization clinic we implemented the breast feeding counseling tool.  In developing countries they recommend breast feeding exclusively for the first 6 months.  However, we found it difficult to locate mothers who exclusively breast fed, as most of them formula fed.  Common barriers to breast feeding included the need to return to work or the inability to produce the needed milk. The Filipino nurses recommend a nutritional plant native to the Philippines to pregnant and breast feeding mothers, called Malunggay, which increases milk production.
